Trouble At The Picnic

On one fine morning  Tui’s family came down to the point to have a picnic with my family. While the adults soaked up the sun, the children run down to the point and started to jump off the big rock, one by one.

Watching them from a distance, I started to walk to the rock when one little boy jumped off. "Who is he?" we asked other He looked about 6-7 years old, Tui and I watched him to make sure he was okay. He floated back up and look at us. "Are you okay?" we asked him. He had a cheeky look on his face, like  one of those boys that are up to no good.

He was still in the water looking up at us."Are you alright? Are you hurt?" Tui inquired. He didn't reply. Tui and I looked at each other "What a strange boy!" She thought out loud. suddenly a strong wave came and nearly swept the boy away. We looked at the adults and they were partying. We could hear the loud music from here.

"They can't hear us from here don't waste your voice"I said

"Hurry up and get out before you get swept out to sea!" Tui said in a concerned voice. Another wave came and he barely stayed put. We saw a big wave coming and it looked like this one would surely  sweep him away. Closer and closer  it came. We didn't know what to do! "What Should we do?" I screamed.

Without thinking Tui and I jumped in to help the boy. When we pulled him back to land the boy looked fine, We couldn't see any bruises or cuts.
"Why didn't you get out of the water when we told you to" Tui said angrily ."What's you're name, where's your mum?"Tui questioned.

We heard a voice in the distance. It was filled with concern and panic. As the woman came near we looked at the boy and immediately made the connection.

“Does this little guy belong to you” I said in a hopeful voice.

"Oh yes, thank you!" She took his hand saying, "Where have you been? I've been looking all over for you!" She sounded happy, angry and relieved all at the same time.

With our good deed done for the day, It was time for Tui and I to have some fun of our own!

  1. Hi Jasmine,
This story sounded scary at first but after hearing that the little boy was okay it wasn't scary at all. You and Tui were great heroes. Anyway, keep up the great work Jasmine!
