Net Book Reflection

Having my netbook available for the last few years has helped me in many ways. Finding new sites has been a big help with my work such as Math, Reading, Writing and creative strand(Art and movie making). Taking my netbook home helps me catch up with work I didn’t complete or need more work on. Going to a place where wifi is available helps me connect to google docs.

Using google docs helps me with my writing, I can write stories and then post them on my own personal blog, where viewers around the world can read my stories. During math time we use sites such as Math Whizz and Xtra Math and sometimes studyladder. Math Whizz helps teach a load of math problems like Geometry, Ratios, Divisions and more. Xtra Math helps with Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division and speeds your mind to think quicker.

Using my net book has helped me and my parents alot. At home we have alot of technology things like Tablets, Computers and Iphones. We all Learn, Create and Share on each device at home. We each have a Google email where we can email each other.

This year I have enjoyed working with netbooks. It has been a massive change in my learning as well as what I do at home. Thank you to the Mr and Mrs Burt for believing in the new age of technology. Also a big thanks to the Manaiakalani for funding our school to use net books. I will take the skills I’ve learnt here and use them in future events.

Prize giving 2013

Last night was prizegiving we where a hit, we blew the roof off the building. Just before 7:00pm the Kapa Haka group meet in the music room. The Kapa Haka group and I meet up and warmed up our voices by singing one of our maori waiata Mr G wrote personally for our pt england school Kapa Haka group. Standing outside of the hall awaiting the words to say we could go on stage we all had butterflies in the pit of our stomachs, walking up the stage we sang out waiata with kia kaha.  Coming down from the stage we rushed down to get to our seats before the year 5’s started their dance.

Sitting by Rita the year 5’s and year 6’s awards and dances pasted. The year 5’s dance was cool because they incorporated the theme of Pitch perfect and Beyonce. The year 6’s danced to a remix of songs and it was really cool. They had cool upbeat songs and danced to songs like dubstep and skrillex.

The awards for the year 7 and 8’s where up. Going through the classrooms for team 5 the awards where 100% Attendance, Best Effect  and Citizenship. My name got called for Best Effect for room 21. Later on I got an award called  pay it forward from Tamaki Primary and outstanding serves to the school.

Overall I really enjoyed this years prize giving. I won three awards and I really liked seeing the the year 7’s preform. After we sang Rita and I ran to our lollies and awards on the ground because of this little girl was taking our lollies and playing with our trophies. At the end of the night my Mum and Dad were proud of me and they gave me 10$.  Thank you to Pt England school for all the memories and the great times I’ve spent here, I will miss you.

Year 8 yearbook

Jasmine yr8 movie from Team 5 PES on Vimeo.

This is the final year for me and the rest of the year 8s here at Pt England School. It is very sad to know we will be leaving. I first started school in 2005 and ever since then I've stayed here, I've loved the time and memories here that I've made and also the friends I became close to. Thank you to all the teachers that have put up with me, and taught me though out the years. It has been an absolute privilege coming to school and being able to have access to the technology. Here is my movie about my time at Pt England.

Future Aspiration

This year a team called Future aspiration  came to our school. Future aspiration brings workers in to our school where the team 5  student  all listen to what  they do for work.  They tell you what they enjoy about their jobs and the excitement that comes with them. They also tell you what they had studied in colleges to help them with them get the job.

My aspiration for the future is to work for movies. I enjoy filming and editing movies at the moment and I honestly would love to do that as a job in the future. I also enjoy traveling and seeing the natural greenery, so I’d like to film the natural things but as well as the existing action things things  as the really enjoy filming at school and I would like to carry on filming once I’ve grown up.

My friend Huelo-ata’s aspiration is to be a police officer. She has thought hard about what her aspiration is and I think that is a great job for her. She is strong and aggressive and is willing to fight crime, she also loves solving mysteries.

My Friends

RITA:
Rita is one of my close friends out of school she is loud, outgoing, funny, sporty and trustworthy. She is one of the prefects at our school. We’re both involved in Kapa haka and are in the same net ball team. One of my favorite memories of us is that at her birthday we went for a morning walk where we talked and had a feed. She loves chocolate and One Direction.

TUI:
One of my best friends at pt england school is Tui. She is smart, sporty, and loves to laugh she also loves to tell jokes that aren’t funny but it’s hilarious when she cracks up from them. She is loud, outgoing and loves to eat. One of my favorite memories with Tui has to be when we went to fortuna for my birthday and ate dinner there.

Roezala:
Another of my friends are Roezala. She’s quiet and loud and also loves to laugh. We are both involved in Kapa haka and Net ball and she is also a Kickboxer. One of my favorite memories with her is at Net ball when we playing against D.I.O.  We lost because the other team cheated because of the reef. It was dumb because they still let DIO win.

Huelo-ata:

Huelo-ata and I go way back. We were both in the same class since 2007-2011.  She is smart, sporty and is a house captain for Tainui. She loves One Direction and  her favorite members are Niall and Harry, her favorite songs are  “Story of my life and Little things.”

One Direction!

One direction. The best British boy band we have ever heard. The boy band consists of Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zyan (Zain) Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne. They are the world’s biggest boy band at the moment. They originally auditioned separately in the hit television ‘X Factor’ but was formed into a group by the one and only, Simon Cowell. They then got eliminated but continued to make music. They released their first song ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ and that became a massive hit.

Stuck in a jungle

“NATHAN!!!! ARE YOU OKAY?!!!” Zayn shouted. In shock Nathan slowly sat up. He had no clue what had happened. Nathan slowly began standing up. “Wh-Where are we? Why are we in a forest?” he said cluelessly . Harry started to speak “I don’t know what happened but when we woke up you were unconscious in this container thing and these... these monsters came and we dropped in this  jungle, and we’ve been here trying to wake you up!”

“Okay now you’re conscious lets get out of here” Niall said quickly. “I think I see the way out” Louie said happily. They all ran through the vine filled forest. Liam fell over a tree stump and yelled  “I’m okay keep running!” They passed Liam and ran through the vines, pushing them out of the way Harry tripped.”LIAM?”. So confused they looked at each other in shock  “WHAT?!!” confused Liam and Harry stood up.”I’ve seen this in a movie once, they're stuck in a repetitive cycle  where they can’t leave!” Nathan said sadly.

“Half of us should go and the other half should stay behind and see what will happen.” Louis said. While Harry, Niall and Zayn went Nathan, Louis and Liam stayed behind. Seconds later Harry, Niall and Zayn returned. “We ran straight through the vines  and then now we’re back! ”  Zayn said puffing out of breath. They all sat in silence. Louis stood up “Noo” He shouted loudly he clamped his fist and ran as fast as he could, he ran through the vines and collapsed to the ground. In panic they all ran and crowded around Louis. It fell silent when Nathan looked up to the sky ”What's that? ” Pointing at a little paper falling.

Unsure of what was on the paper it fell into Niall’s hand, opening it up  it said “To exit this jungle you must find and destroy a hidden treasure. Destroying it  might be easy but finding it... well it may not be as easy”  Niall said reading. “We have to try find it. Where here in the West and theres nothing here so  Niall and Zayn take the North, Nathan and Louis take the South, Harry and me can take the East. ” Liam said with determination.

A minute in search for the treasure Niall and Zayn yelled ” We think we’ve found the treasure” at the same time Harry and Liam found a sword grabbing both of the artifacts they all gathered together, they handed athan the sword as he was the strongest one there and he smashed the treasure in to billions of pieces. They all looked around the jungle as they were they saw all the trees, vines, and leaves falling down, it looked as like it was paint. Once all the plants died down they saw that they where in the monsters ship. “They  failed our test!” One of the monsters said. Unsure they stood in shock not knowing what to do. The monsters grabbed their guns and aimed. The boys were so scared, they cloesed their eyes when the monster shoot the drop button. They dropped into a pool in their hometown. Drenched in water they vowled never to speak of that ever again and they went home.

The Differance Between Auckland and Syria

Auckland morning:
Awoken by my brother tugging at my blankets I breathed a low sigh of annoyance. I had no luck trying to get rid of him. I got up slowly and took my time getting ready for school. I dragged myself to the kitchen and made myself breakfast.

Syria morning:
Waking up to a loud shotgun going off, I laid there wondering what possibly could happen today. Forcing myself to get up I wanted to lay there the whole day and forget about the war. I quickly tiptoed quietly past the other sleeping families.  As I stepped out of the house I could see debris  and armed soldiers everywhere.

Auckland day:
Entering school I arrived to see my friends. Walking towards them we entered the classroom and went to our seats, greeted by our teacher  we got our Netbooks out.”Okay class please close your net books and look at the board!” We turned our attention to the board as we learnt about our topic ‘What in the world is going on?’

Syria day:
As he walked past the school he whispered “another day and I’m not going to learn”. Hearing the students laugh and seeing them learn, he wished that he was in there learning and laughing like them. Ever since the war began, he had to go to work to help his family survive.

Auckland night:
Coming home I threw my bag on the floor as I lazily flopped into my bed. Hearing my mother call for me I walked following her voice to the lounge. My mother had made dinner and we all sat around the table eating and talking about our day at school and work.

Syria night: Coming home to our cold house, my mother was already in bed. She had been working all day.  I could tell she was tired by her heavy breathing and the bags around her eyes. Trying not to wake her up I laid next to her thinking “Tomorrows  another day!” while shutting my eyes hoping and praying for a better day.

Good bye Pt England

Sadly it’s the last year here at pt england for the year 8s. As sad as we all are to leave were also happy and excited to go to college. Most of the year 8 have been here there whole life, so it’s really sad to leave.

I’ve also  been here my whole life. At the end of the year it will be sad to leave because of all the loving teachers and my close  friends. Pt england is a loving school and it will be a hard to say goodbye, I hope college is the same.

Next year we will be at college, everyone is going to different colleges so we won’t be seeing our friends as much. I will be going to AGGS(Auckland Girls Grammar School) a group of girls from Pt england are going there as well.

9 or 8 more weeks till the holidays the difference is we won’t be coming back. I’m so scared for college but I’m happy that I’m growing up and learning more. So for now good-bye

9/11 DLO

Jasmine and Makayla DLO from Team 5 PES on Vimeo.

Our DLO is about 9/11. The purpose of our DLO was to show how the planes destroyed the twin towers. Also we wanted to show the reactions and the faciles of the people that were affected.

Makayla and I tried to achieve this  by making a mini replica and  showing the faciles and disappointment of the public. By making the replica we showed the planes coming in and destroying the towers. We also filmed  a few world newspapers falling, the idea behind that was how the destruction of the twin towers was known everywhere.

The perspective we were showing was from our point of view. The emotions we were trying to show was  a firefighter shaking his head in sadness and a woman that had lost her husband or family member. If we were to have more time I think we could make more buildings for the replica.

September 11th 2001, two planes crashed into the twin towers. Two other planes crashed into more buildings. It was a terrorist attack lead by Osama bin laden.

Why Writing

Writing... During school we all have to write something. Writing will help you in life! My mother says. While I had it with writing I don’t enjoy it and I can’t see why some people can write long paragraphs. I don’t see how they can enjoy writing and stand thinking for a long time waiting for one idea to pop into their mind.

Well writing is fun sometimes...SOMETIMES. If the subject is one I like, I will get hooked on to it and make it my best. Well I guess writing is okay once you have the subjects nailed. Unlike me some people blaze through writing.

Thinking more about writing is coming to make me think, writing isn’t that bad. I guess if you're good at planning and passionate about writing it will be a breeze. I guess i’ll try be more passionate about writing next time.

Cross-Country

Anxious, Nervous and excited all these feelings were going through my mind, while trying to remember the chants for Mataatua. Cross-Country was today and Shoal and I had planned to run together. Unlike the fun run we only had to run 3.5km but for the fun run we had to run 5km.

Getting ready the House captains and House leaders got changed. The girls and I went to the toilets and changed. We painted our face and legs in our house colours which were: Te Arawa(Red), Tainui(Blue), Takitimu(Yellow) and Mataatua(Green).

Out to the hard courts the house captains and house helpers went out with their flags. The bell rang and the House captains/helpers lined up. Rushing to get Vivienne and Brooklyn up to the front for our prefects helpers they ran up to Mataatua.Going across from team to team Te Arawa copied Mataatuas chant. We were trying to quickly think of a better chant but we just repeated the one they did but with more enthusiastic.

The races started and the House Captains/helpers went to the finish line. The 5 year old boys started and we all ran to see who was coming first. Going up the ages by the time we knew it was time for the year 8 girls to run. Looking for Shoal I hurried to the starting line and found shoal. “On your makes. Get set.”SNAP and off we were.

Should Homework Be Compulsory In Schools?

Yes, as much as I hate homework it helps me study and learn. It takes time to sit down and focus but in the end it raises the  learning level. Homework can be hard but it doesn't take all day,  realistically you have to manage your time properly. Homework helps you practice for future actives.

Some say homework teaches responsibility, and I agree. It teaches us to manage our time and organization skills. If chosen not to do homework you fail. It’s fair, and it’s only lazy if you want it banned.  It may be hard but homework is there to help you. Homework allows time to study for tests, and go over work you did that day.

Homework is something we all need. We will all use it sometime in the future. Along the way it teaches you time management as well.

Mixed fairytale

Once upon a time a little girl and boy named Harry and Katie were wandering in the forest. Lost and confused they came across a house made out of candy. “I wonder who lives there?” Katie said to the Harry. Wandering closer and closer, the children became more curious. “Mmmm! it smells delicious” Harry said while rubbing his stomach. Walking up to the door it slowly screeched open. The children became a little scared.

Lollies could be seen everywhere on the shelves and floor. To the left was a table with lollies and delicious chocolate cakes. The kids couldn’t help themselves but to start eating. Eating and eating they began to grow bigger and bigger. The childrens faces were full of terror when they saw a witch rocking in her chair. The kids weren’t feeling hungry anymore so they tried to leave the house.

Katie went first but she couldn’t fit through the door. Next Harry tried to go through but the same thing happened to him. “Is somebody there?” a voice came out of the darkness. Crying and crying the kids shouted back ”Help me Help we’re lost and afraid.”

Walking into the light the kids saw the witch and started to scream. “Don’t eat us please, please we beg you!” the kids cried. The witch took one more step then all of a sudden the girl pulled a rope that made the doors lock. “I thought you needed help?” The witch screamed loudly. The kids finally saw that she wasn’t a witch she was a cook but they didn’t care. Screaming and crying the lady was burning into pieces.

They opened the doors and a little shadow came out of the fog. It looked small and tasty and similar to a gingerbread man. The children started to giggle. Harry was feeling hungry for one more feast. Katiel said “NO it’s mine!” No it’s mine the boy replied.

During their argument they saw the gingerbread man sprinting out of the doors singing “Run run as fast as you can you can’t catch me I’m the gingerbread man!”. Out of the door he ran into the forest never to be seen again.

Prospective Student

Climbing a steep mountain a boy was determined to reach his dream school. Gripping tenuously on the rock face a slippe of his hand left him dangling, fearing for his life. He reached the top, tiredly looking up he saw the school, pulling himself towards the building he knocked upon the door and waited.

Nervously looking up at sensei he bowed not knowing what to do. Sensei pointing away the boy had a sad look upon his face. The door slammed and the boy was left wondering what now. He sat and meditated over night and when he opened his eyes waiting there was sensei, his hand was pointing away again.

Standing up turning away nearly giving up he took a breath and had a determined look in his eyes. He clenched his fist, turned to the door and kicked it open. Confidently looking into senseis eyes he showed him a few karate moves. Sensei had a angry look upon his face and moving his hand he pointed to a sign.

“Please use side entrance” with an embarrassed look on his face. He realized why he was pointing to the side.

Trouble Seekers

On a street so empty and so run down was a blue, 4 story building. Back in the days it was a toy factory, when the toy factory first came out, it brought happiness to the townspeople. But then one day it went DARK. The next day almost all the windows were shattered and all the entrances were blocked. After that day the townspeople didn’t talk to each other they kept to themselves and from that day things began to happen.

Emma, Johnson, Kelly and Adam went way back, they had known each other ever since their childhood. People that knew them called them the “Trouble Seekers!” because they searched for and tried to solve mysteries. Recently Emma got a puppy for her birthday, they all loved the puppy and they called him  “Seeker” they trained him to find secret hiding spots that weren't as easy to find.

They all went for a walk, when suddenly seeker ran off. With a wail and howl he ran to the toy factory. He scratched on the rubbish bin like there was something hidden. Johnson and Adam moved the rubbish bin out of the way.  Hidden behind was a staircase going down, old and rusty covered in spider webs they made their way down. Cautiously making their way down Seeker rushed to the bottom “Woof Woof” He started barking.

“Seeker” called Kelly. They were at the bottom of the staircase staring at the top. The sound of a creaking suddenly appeared and then it all went dark, the rubbish bin had moved and covered the entrance.”What’s happening, What’s going on?” said Emma.
What’s going to happen next? I guess you’ll have to find out later.

Our Sandwich

Pt England School Investigates, that is the topic for this term. In team 5 our main focus is “My Healthy Kitchen Rules.” So far we’ve learnt about obesity and how bad food can affect your health and how it can block your arteries, which also lead to death.

We had to get into a groups for our next task. In my group was Ashleigh, Vivienne, Shoal, Tauwhare and me, our task was to make a healthy sandwich. We planned, talked and gathered information about what we wanted in our sandwich.

Sausages, Lettuce, Mayo, Cheese and brown bread, doesn’t that sound nice? Our feedback was great.  The main thing people didn’t like was lettuce and the most favored thing was the taste and flavors. We asked them if it was healthy and they replied yes.

Overall they enjoyed our sandwich and liked that is was healthy. At the end of the term a group from each class is going to go head to head with other class groups for a cook off. I think we have a good chance of being that group for the cook off.

Should P.E Be Removed From School

No! 1 in 12 children are obese or overweight due to lack of exercise. P.E is hated by some of the children but it increases your fitness levels. Exercise is a way to socialise and become more aware of the fitness that you will need when you grow up. P.E will decrease the chances of being obese.

P.E stands for “Physical Education”. Physical is when you use your body in a moving way. When you exercise you breathe faster to circulate your blood and to bring oxygen to your body

There are different kinds of ways to do P.E: playing sports (eg:Soccer, Netball, Rugby) and running around. You are also taught how to use different types of exercises that will motivate you to become fitter.

The benefits of P.E are socializing, less chances of being obese or overweight and being proud of yourself, by the way you look and talking to other people. Having that confidence makes you become more positive about yourself!

Obesity

Body mass index (BMI). If a person’s BMI is over 30 they are considered obese. If your BMI is between 25%-29.9% you’re overweight. People need to aim for a healthy weight and a good BMI.

When you're obese you are not able to exercise and do normal daily things. Obesity is caused by eating too much junk food and not exercising. Obesity is a serious disease, that has claimed the lives of many old and young people.

Obesity is growing in America. 1/3 of people are obese in America. Evansville, Indiana is the most obese state in America. Obesity can cause health problems like heart attacks, heart disease, short breathe, shorter life expectancy and much more.

Heart attack Grill is a burger shop and is located in Phoenix, America. Buyers are waited on by scantily clad nurses. The menu serves Single, Double, Triple and even Quadruple Bypass Burger. They do sell fries called “flatliner fries.” These are fried in lard. To wash it all down you’re served a butter-fat shake. If you weigh 350 pounds you eat for free. The spokesperson was 29 years old when he passed away. After he passed away they got a new spokesperson to replace him.

Obesity can be prevented.  With a healthy diet and exercise you  will lose weight. This will help you in the future to become a healthier person.

All about Eggs

In New Zealand 920,000,000 eggs are eaten every year.  The eggs are mostly produced by caged hens (Caged 89%, Free range 9%, Barn 2%) Depending on the chicken the egg can be white or brown. (Brown hens make brown eggs and white hens make white eggs).

Caged hens usually have 6 hens per cage. Cages are on an angle so that the eggs will roll down onto a conveyor belt. There is a computer system that takes the eggs and prepares them to go into the carts. Caged hens normally lose their feathers. Caged hens can’t lay eggs when they don’t have feathers. In this case, farmers sometimes starve the hens to make them lay eggs (forced moulting). Caged hens cannot do the following: dust bath, flap their wings, nest or run around like normal hens.

Free range hens are able to run, flap their wings, perch and dust bath unlike the caged hens.
They feed on grass and chicken feed. With 11 square metres per chicken, they have space to run free they get good exercise. At night they don’t close the doors so they are able to go out in the morning. When they lay their eggs they are all hand picked and put into the cartons.

Barn hens are able to perch, nest and flap their wings. They don’t have space to run around.  They get feed on chicken feed. They live in a barn and don’t go out. The eggs are hand picked and put into cartons. They last 21 days unrefrigerated.

I Am Angel

I can’t believe it I want’ to scream and shout and let it all out for our special visitor. He is known worldwide and has sang/rapped with other stars. His recent album has gone platinum here in New Zealand. He has donated $100.000 to the manaiakalani trust foundation to go towards more technology. Isn’t that great? He is one of the most inspiring people I’ve ever meet, He wasn’t raised up in a rich neighborhood and his dream was to look after his mum and now he has that power to  look after her. Do you know who I’m talking about?

Will.I.am, yes the one and only from the black eyed peas came to Pt england school. He was welcomed by the prefects as they showed him to his seat. Easter

Easter! Do you know what Easter is all about? Some people think easter is all about chocolate and bunnies and things like that. Some believe that easter it the day Jesus died on the cross for our sins.

Long ago Jesus was forced to carry a cross on his back and walk up a hill. When he had reached the top they nailed him up to the cross. He was mocked for being the King of Jews and someone shouted out to him “You saved others, why don’t you save yourself? ” he didn’t reply. Later on Jesus said “It is finished” he bowed his head and went to heaven.

They laid him in a tomb and blocked the entrance with a rock. Later on they went back to check on him and found that the rock was moved and that his body was gone. Jesus came back to visit his friends from the dead. He told them to teach about God’s love. “Tell the people,” said Jesus, “to believe in me even if they can’t see me.” Then Jesus went up to heaven to live with his Father.

I believe that Easter is all about family and we should spend time with them. On  Easter I spent time with my cousins. We had an Easter hunt that I set up it was pretty easy but they enjoyed it. Over all Easter was fun and yummy with all that chocolate.

My Brother

This is my little brother Jaxon. He is the youngest of us two as you can see. We are 12 years apart. It’s a long time don’t you think?  My mum said that she was waiting till I’m old enough to babysit.

You see before he came I was the only child. It was really fun being the only child sometimes. We went to america with my older cousin. I thought of my older cousin like my sister. We always spent time together and she always spoilt me.

The first time I found out that my mum was pregnant was chirstmas. Under the tree was a present of my dad and I. We unwrapped it with great excitement. It was a soft top, little and blue and it . I looked at her and I was so confused.

I am so happy that I have a little brother. He is really annoying but he is really lovable sometimes.  He has just learnt to grab and walk around. He learns things everyday.
